Collection / compilation and daily reporting of surveillance data on communicable diseases, outbreak investigation and control measures are the main activities of the centre. Specialty Clinics

I)   Swasthya Clinic

          The Swasthya Clinic under the Department of Community Medicine has been involved in the management of life-style diseases and other physical disorders. The OP time is 12 noon to 1.00 pm on every Thursday, conducting at Preventive Clinic Unit, Medical Hospital, Thiruvananthapuram. The patients from other departments having Hypertension, Diabetes, Obesity, stress related disorders and other physical disabilities are coming through this clinic. 

II)   Palliative Care Unit

          The Palliative Care Clinic has been launched in the Medical College Hospital, Thiruvananthapuram. This is the joint Endeavour of the Department of Community Medicine, other clinical and non-clinical departments, such as Department of Pathology, Anatomy, Psychiatry, Radiotherapy, Micro-biology, Nursing College etc., and also with the full support of Pallium India. . The OP conducting on every Monday, Wednesday and Friday at 2.00 pm to 4.00 pm. On an average 20 patients/day sought services from the palliative unit. Medical, Non-Medical, Nursing staffs are voluntarily serving in the palliative clinic.

III)     Adolescent Clinic

                   An adolescent clinic is working on every Saturday at Health Centers, Pangappara&Vakkom which are under the control of Department of Community Medicine. 

IV) Community Mental Health Clinics

The clinic is attached to MCH Unit Pangappara& Rural Health Centre Vakkom.   

V)   Hypertension Clinic

             Department is conducting a hypertension clinic at MCH Unit Pangappara Administrative Medical Officer is in charge of the Clinic.

M.)   Other Services

1.       Hotel Sanitation

Inspected DME canteen &Hospital Welfare Society Canteen in Connection with Reported Food poisoning. Instructions were given to the canteen staff about safe food practices.

3.       Monitoring and Evaluation of ICDS

The ICDS Scheme, launched on 2nd Oct 1975 . In 33 ICDS blocks, has been gradually expanded to 6284 projects. It responds to the inter related needs of children below 6 years, pregnant women, Locating mother and adolescent girls in a comprehensive manner. Govt of India has decided to set up a monitory & supervision mechanism of the ICDS through National Institute of Public cooperation & Child Development.

Department of Community Medicine, Medical College Trivandrum has been selected to function as one of the lead Institutions in the state of Kerala

  1. To Collect and analyze the data and reports received from the districts and state Head Quarters on the performance of ICDS scheme on Pre determined set of Indicators.
  2. To collect data through field visits to selected ICDS projects in the area assigned to it. 

 

          4.       Sentinel Surveillance Unit

          Under National Programme for the control of Blindness by Ophthalmic Division.Ministery of Health   and Family Welfare. Sentinel Surveillance Unit for the state of Kerala is functioning in the Dept.in association with Regional Institute of ophthalmology. Through this programme morbidity pattern and performance status of cataract surgery are monitored. The programme is coordinated   by Dr.R.P Center for Ophthalmic Sciences, New Delhi. We collected at from both private and Govt.Institutions and reports are sending quarterly to RP Centr
